The MiStream Clean-up Project

The MiStream River Clean-Up Project is supported by Johan van Zyl who is the owner of Midteam Real Estate Agents and Just Property Midstream, Midstream developers and the Midstream Community. The Kaalspruit river in Tembisa is heavily polluted. Yesterday the estate agents, developers and community got involved and removed nappies, animal carcasses, food and household waste from the river. The river is badly polluted and needs urgent attention. We need to address the source problem and educate people on how to manage their waste however the biggest drive is to get municipality involved to manage the bigger problem which is waste removal in the areas where there is no such service so people resort to dumping in rivers.

The Kaalspruit River runs from Kempton Park and winds between the City of Joburg before it joins the Hennops River. The aim is to revive and restore the Hennops River, one of the larger watercourses in Gauteng and also among the most polluted.

DA spokesperson for water, sanitation and energy in Ekurhuleni, Councillor Derek Thomson is also involved with the project and has given his commitment to assist in resort the river and rehabilitating the old landfill site to assist in preventing the rubbish from being tossed into the river.
